Chitwan National Park is the first national park in Nepal and was established in 1973 and approved the status of a World Heritage Site in 1984. It covers an area of 932 km2 (360 sq mi) and is located in the subtropical Inner Terai lowlands of south-central Nepal in the Chitwan District. The wide range of vegetation varieties in the Chitwan National Park is home for more than 700 species of wildlife. Bengal Tigers, Leopards and Rhinoceros, spotted deer, are most prevalent mammals in park. Similarly 575 bird species and about two-thirds of Nepal's globally threatened species of birds can be witnessed inside the park. Apart from this more than 160 species of migrant birds visit National Park every year.
